Geilo is investing in the tourism of the future with a new visual identity and website. Sustainability, digitalization and increased accessibility are in focus to reinforce Geilo as a preferred destination for tourists and locals.
Geilo in a new profile, and with a highly commercial website
Høyfjellsbygda invests heavily in the tourism of the future
For several decades, the high mountain destination Geilo has been a first choice for travelers from home and abroad. Now Geilo gets a new visual identity and a website, which makes tourism products more easily accessible to guests and locals. This is to strengthen tomorrow's tourism.
Sustainability and digitalisation are some of the most important factors for everyone who works with tourism, business and destination development. Visit Geilo has always had a leading position when it comes to good and future-oriented development for permanent residents, cabin guests and all other tourists who visit Geilo, and now they are taking up the fight to also be in the first place for accessibility through the digital toolbox.
Geilo has always had a large selection of unique and sought-after experience products, and now these are collected and available through the new digital ordering portal. By strengthening the online store, Geilo will become the preferred destination for adventure travel.
New Geilo – for tomorrow
Therefore, Visit Geilo is now rolling out a new visual costume for the high mountain village of Geilo. This is happening with, among other things, a new website and profile, which will market Geilo and the surrounding area in both print and digital media.
The new visual identity of Geilo is based on values such as; Proud, positive, genuine, passionate and active. A modern mountain destination with a proud and classic
history at its core, long traditions and a tourist heritage dating back to the 1880s.
On the plateau we find a robust plant and animal life. Among them the wild reindeer, proud, elegant and synonymous with real high mountains. Geilo, a close-knit community that plays on many of the same values, here is a rich and varied offer gathered in one place. The inhabitants happily share their passion and pride in what the mountain village has to offer with its guests.
The new visual identity aims to reflect this with a stylish, classic and timeless design. With whimsical colors, taken from nature, shapes that recreate an expression and a feeling of proud and real!
"We are very pleased with the new profile, and that the people will also get to know the new expression and feeling we now create of our love for Geilo." – Lillvi W. Hole, General Manager of Visit Geilo.
At a time when more and more of our daily tasks are controlled via the mobile phone, it is important that the new Geilo is always available to the users, where they are and when they are there.
"As you know, Geilo is close between the highlights, and the new way we communicate and profile these is to an even greater extent adapted to the digital future," says chairman of Visit Geilo, Roger Espeli.
"It has been very important to get all our business players in tourism over to the "digital product shelf", where customers can find what they want and can shop easily and safely. This is especially important at a time when tourism and business must adapt to the new everyday life, both in terms of the pandemic and rapid changes. We will also have a simple, efficient and safe way all the way to all consumers and guests."
Where people meet
Digitalization should make things easier and more profitable, but never replace the most important things in Geilo. "Facilitating good meetings and experiences between people in the mountain people's own home creates a vibrant community where the guest is in focus," says tourism manager Lillvi W. Hole, and continues:
"This is one of our most important tasks in a new era where the guests who come to visit will be here for even more days and experience everything we can offer. We want to give them the taste of the high mountains, both literally and figuratively. We use modern tools when we fuse tradition and innovation in a good way, and getting our tourism products onto the digital shelf is therefore positive for everyone. We are very pleased with the development we have had over the past year and can hardly wait for the continuation for Geilo and the visitors."
Sustainable destination
The new identity and digital investment are tailored with Geilo labelled as a sustainable destination.
This is a sustainability certification that means a lot to us, and which provides important content in everything we think and do.
"Being labeled as a sustainable destination means that Geilo has over time prioritized the goal of increased sustainability, and that Geilo continuously works to improve our business practices and our relationship with the local community, based on sustainable principles," Lillvi W.Hole continues.
A new cable car in Geilo
The development of the new Geilo does not only take place on digital surfaces. A new cable car is being planned and the future tourism story is being created.
The old cable car, which was completed in 1954, carried over 40 million passengers from the station in the middle of the city centre and up to Geilohovda before operations ceased 10 years ago. Now there are plans to build a new and modern cable car that will run from Geilo station up to Geilohovda and on to Havsdalen. "A cable car in a new guise and in a new time. An offer for everyone, which provides the opportunity to create even more jobs and increased value creation in a sustainable Geilo. So that everyone who lives here and who comes to visit also in the future will experience that Geilo is a specialist in the high mountains", concludes Roger Espeli.
