Skarverennet 2026

Skarverennet warmly welcomes you to a new skiing adventure on April 18, 2026 – one of the world’s third-largest cross-country ski events, first held in 1974. This year, two distances are offered: the classic 37 km from Finse to Ustaoset, and a shorter 25 km from Haugastøl to Ustaoset.

Skarverennet is a spectacular ski race along the Hallingskarvet mountains, offering an incredible nature experience. The race has a long-standing tradition and is organized by Geilo IL, supported by a large team of volunteers who ensure participants are well taken care of from start to finish.

A unique aspect of Skarverennet is the carefully organized transport to the starting points. Tickets include train transportation, with day-trip options available from both Oslo and Bergen. This allows participants to take the train to the start, complete the race, and return by train from Ustaoset the same day. For those starting at Finse, the train is the only way to reach the starting point, as there is no road access.

Skarverennet thus combines physical challenge with a breathtaking natural setting and seamless logistics, making it a highlight for both experienced skiers and those wishing to experience Norway’s high-mountain landscapes on skis.
