SAUNA Ustaoset self service

Secure your sauna session with ice bathing, with the option to book from 1 to 4 hours (self-service).

Welcome to Tønna, a self-service wood-fired barrel sauna at Ustaoset with space for 6 people.

Ustaoset is located 15 minutes from Geilo along Highway 7 towards Bergen.

Everything you need to fire up the stove can be found in a box inside the sauna. Firewood will also be available inside the sauna or in a box outside.

When you are finished, please sweep the benches and floor thoroughly. You will find a broom in the sauna — leave Tønna the way you would like to find it yourself.
Important! When you are done, you must empty all buckets of water; otherwise they will freeze into solid ice for the next group.
The sauna is designed for 6 people, but there is room for 8 if you sit close together. Bathing is at your own risk.

Note: The sauna is not warm when you arrive — you must fire up the stove yourself.

Packing List
Swimwear, towel, drinking water for the sauna, extra wool socks or water shoes/neoprene socks, extra mittens and a hat, headlamp(it can be dark around the sauna in the evening).
There is no changing room at the sauna; you change outdoors next to it. Therefore, pack smart in a large bag or backpack so you can store your belongings while you enjoy the warmth.
The nearest toilets are at the gas station for a fee. There are free restrooms at the train station, open around the clock. Both the train station and the gas station are a 3-minute walk from the sauna.

Parking
At the Joker store in Ustaoset. Parking fees are paid at the gas station.

Access
Between the Joker store and the train station, walk through the tunnel under the railway tracks and you will see the sauna.

After booking, you will receive an email with a code for the lock on the sauna door.
If, for any reason, you do not receive the email, call or send a text message to Hilde.

If you have questions about the sauna, you can also contact Hilde at [email protected] or +47 416 36 579.

Be aware that the water level at Ustevann is lowered in autumn, so it may be lower than normal in November and December. It may therefore be difficult to bathe until the ice settles and is safe to walk on towards the end of December.

Ice Bathing
When Ustevann freezes, it will not be possible to bathe directly — BUT Hilde from Vinternatt, the owner of the sauna, creates an ice hole every winter. The ice hole is safely locked for security.
If you rent the sauna, you will have the opportunity to use the ice hole during your session. Hilde will either come down to open it while you are in the sauna, or you will find instructions inside the sauna on how to open it when you arrive.
