National park bus at Geilo
Every day from 11th of July to 16th of August
This summer, Geilo is launching a brand-new bus service that makes it easier than ever to get out into the mountains – without a car. The National Park Bus is a pilot project designed to make it simple to choose environmentally friendly transport to some of Geilo's most popular hiking destinations.
What is the National Park Bus?
The National Park Bus is a new local bus route running daily throughout the summer season, connecting Geilo village center with two of the most popular gateways to the mountains:
Tuva – entry point to Hardangervidda National Park
Prestholtseter – starting point for the hike up Hallingskarvet
Instead of driving to the trailhead (with the parking challenges that often involves), you can now simply hop on the bus from Geilo and be taken straight to the mountain. This makes it easier to plan day trips, reduces car use in the area, and gives you a more relaxed start to your hike – whether you're a local resident or a visitor.
Why a National Park Bus?
Fewer cars heading into the mountains means less pressure on parking at popular trailheads, less traffic through the village, and a more sustainable travel experience for everyone visiting Geilo. The bus is a collaborative project between Visit Geilo, Geilo Turbusser, and local partners, aimed at making it appealing to leave the car keys at home.
