JÓR Quartet – Echoes from the North
Geilo kulturkyrkje invites you to a concert with JÓR Quartet and their program "Nordic Tones" on September 5 at 6:00 PM.
JÓR is a saxophone quartet whose members are based in Norway, Sweden, and Denmark, and who enjoy an active international performing career. The quartet has a strong Nordic focus and is dedicated to promoting the rich shared cultural heritage of the Nordic countries.
The saxophone is one of the most versatile instruments, capable of sounding lyrical and delicate like a string instrument, expressive and singing like the human voice, and powerful and energetic like a brass instrument. Drawing on these qualities, JÓR creates a rich and varied soundscape, ranging from the majestic and grand to the intimate and personal.
At this concert, you will hear the program “Nordic Tones.” Nordic Tones is a concert program featuring classical and traditional music from the Nordic countries, specially arranged by the quartet for four saxophones. The program includes Intimate Miniatures by the Swedish composer Lars-Erik Larsson, as well as Heimve and Bådnlåt from Edvard Grieg’s Lyric Pieces. You will also hear music by the Norwegian folk musician Gjermund Larsen, the Swedish composer Johan August Andersson, and the Norwegian composer Geirr Tveitt.
JÓR consists of:
Anja Nedremo (DK/NO) – Soprano Saxophone
Kathrine Kirkeng Oseid (NO) – Alto Saxophone
Morten Norheim (NO) – Tenor Saxophone
Anna Magnusson (SE) – Baritone Saxophone
At this concert, you will experience four saxophones in ways you may never have heard before. We promise a unique and memorable concert experience!
