This guided bus tour departs daily from Geilo Train Station during the summer season, from May 19 to August 31, 2025. Departure from Geilo 10:05 - arrival back at Geilo 17:30
Tour Description
From Geilo, one of Norway’s oldest and most traditional ski resorts, the tour takes you by comfortable coach through the high mountains and across Hardangervidda National Park – the largest national park in Norway. There will be a longer stopp at the Vøringsfossen, one of Norway’s most dramatic waterfalls. After this stop the bus takes you to the Norwegian Nature Center. The return journey will be straight back to Geilo.
Hardangervidda
On the way, you will pass Haugastøl, the starting point of the famous Rallarvegen cycling route – often called one of the most beautiful bike rides in Norway. As you travel across the vast Hardangervidda plateau, your knowledgeable guide will share fascinating insights about the area’s unique nature, wildlife, traditional mountain culture, and how climate change and modern technology are shaping the region's future. The journey offers spectacular panoramic views and a rare chance to experience the raw beauty of the Norwegian highlands – all from the comfort and safety of your seat.
Vøringsfossen
With a vertical drop of 182 meters (597 feet), Vøringsfossen is an awe-inspiring sight as the roaring waters plunge from Hardangervidda into the narrow Måbødalen valley. A unique stair bridge with 99 steps allows you to cross the dramatic gorge – a thrilling walk that will surely give you butterflies! The new bridge connects the viewpoints Fossetromma and Fossli, and is part of Norway’s National Scenic Routes project, where innovative architecture meets breathtaking landscapes.
Måbødalen
From Vøringsfossen, the tour continues down the steep and winding hairpin bends of Måbødalen, offering dramatic views on your way to the next highlight.
Måbødalen is a spectacular mountain valley stretching from the high plateau of Hardangervidda down to the fjords of Eidfjord. It marks the dramatic transition from mountain to fjord landscape and has served as an important travel route for centuries. The old road from the 1800s is considered a feat of engineering, while today’s modern highway ensures a safe and comfortable journey. With its wild scenery and breathtaking views, Måbødalen is a true highlight of the tour.
Norwegian Nature Centre – Hardanger
Located in Øvre Eidfjord, this modern and engaging experience centre focuses on Norwegian nature, climate, and environmental topics. The centre features interactive exhibitions, hands-on learning stations, and a panoramic cinema showing an impressive film about Hardangervidda. It’s an ideal way to deepen your understanding of the region and a perfect ending to a day full of natural wonders.

Tickets must be purchased in advance via vybuss.no or the VY mobile app – no later than 15 minutes before departure.
Meeting point: Geilo Train Station, at the bus stop directly on the platform.
Clothing: Dress in comfortable clothes suitable for the day’s weather conditions. Bring layers – weather in the mountains can change quickly.
Food & Drink: Cafeterias with hot and cold meals, snacks, and beverages are available at Fossli Hotel (Vøringsfossen) and at the Norwegian Nature Centre in Øvre Eidfjord.
