Geilojordet

This is a gem in Geilo center for recreation, experiences and activities. During the summer, there is an outdoor cafe that serves, among the other things, sour cream porridge. in the barn, there are exhibits, and all the buildings are open for visitors. For the children, there is a play area: and the can visit goat kids and chickens.

Summer season 2024
The Geilojordet cafe is open every day from 11:00 to 16:00, from Saturday 22md of June until Sunday the 18th of August. During this time you can visit inside every building and take a look at the exhibition with old farm tools and local clothing. Entrance is free.

Outside for these openinghours you are very welcome to visit the area. It is a nice and quit place to be, with always people around, both locals, children and tourists. There are places to sit down and do a little picknick, a playground for the younger children and with every building there is an information sign about the history and use.

Storytelling
- Living storytelling theater every day; you get to hear a story from a farm boy or a farm girl about how life was on the Geilo farm in the 1850s. The young people take you into the various buildings and tell you about life and anecdotes. Join for free at 12:00, 13:30 and 15:00. Please make clear you want to hear the English versjon. It is free to join and the tour taks about 10 til 15 minuttes.

Geilojordet Bygdemuseum
Geilojordet was originally a hayfield, later a homestead under the farm Geilo. Geilo gard has history all the way back to the Middle Ages! From 1924, Geilojorde was an independent farm before Hol municipality took over Geilojorde with buildings and land in 1984.

Now the Geilojorde consists of 9 buildings from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. In the summer, this is a living oasis in the middle of the city centre. Here you can learn about bygone times, see theater and exhibitions. There is also an outdoor cafe with sales, as well as goats and chickens!
