Exhibition at Geilo kulturkyrkje
We warmly welcome you to the opening of the exhibition EVENTS IN WATER by Gitte Sætre and THE WORLD by Frans Jacobi at Geilo Cultural Church on Sunday, January 18 at 2:00 PM.
At the exhibition opening, Jacobi will read from the book Verden (The World).
Hendelser i vann (Events in Water) is a series of large-scale watercolours by visual artist Gitte Sætre. Water is the driving force of the watercolour technique, and both the water itself and the horizon line that emerges in its reflective surface form the recurring motif throughout the works. Weather is depicted through imaginative observations, where mirages, cloud formations, and atmospheric phenomena unfold across the large sheets. The motifs appear light and playful, yet they also contain a serious contemplation of nature’s own movement – how it constantly responds to its surroundings and emerges as a dynamic canvas, suspended between reality and abstraction.
Verden (The World) is a series of small A4-format watercolours by visual artist Frans Jacobi. The series was created during a journey around the Sognefjord in the summer of 2023. Each image is a variation on the landscape, focusing on mountains, water, and reflections. In these motifs, nature seems to speak to us – as if it looks back and opens itself to loss and disappearance. The series has recently been published in book form in collaboration with poet Claus Handberg.
Geilo Kulturkyrke is an architectural monument in its own right – a landmark that was nominated for Timber Building of the Year and Building of the Year in 2010. The church interior is decorated by Kjell Nupen, and the space is, in every sense, a place for reflection, wonder, outlook, and contemplation. Welcome!
All artworks are for sale, and admission is free.
