Snowshoeing is Something for Everyone!

It doesn’t matter if you don’t have snowshoeing experience - snowshoes are something for everyone, and are a great way to get out and enjoy the winter landscape, whether you are wandering in untouched snow and terrain or in groomed tracks.

Our snowshoeing trips are provided by Geilo Aktiv, Vinternatt, and Slaatta Ski Center. They adapt the trips to the desired speed, incline, distance, and length, so that everyone has a fantastic winter experience. If you prefer to rent snowshoes, this is possible at Slaata Ski Center, Vestlia Resort, and at the Tourist Information.

For the Family:

The family snowshoeing trip is suitable for everyone with children over 6 years. The trip takes place in the forest area around the Slaatta Ski Center. It ends with sledding on a personal toboggan board and a nice time at the Slaatta Sami Tent. There, the guides help you make stick bread, and then grilling them over an open fire. A great family activity.

A different trip for the family is the adventurous snowshoe trip with dinner and a bonfire, organized by Vinternatt. Here, you will enjoy a traditional Norwegian dinner over the fire in untouched nature. The trip goes through easy terrain by the Ustedalsfjorden lake. There will be animal tracks in the snow, constellations, and the winter night falling. An educational, memorable, and wonderful trip for the whole family.

You can also participate in a little snowshoe trip in the area around the Vestlia Resort, organized by Geilo Aktiv. This is an easy trip facilitated for beginners and families. Here, you will receive an introduction to snowshoes and have a wonderful evening trip. A snowshoe trip in wonderful surroundings with a headlight, and where you will be back in time for dinner.

The Training Session:

Summit trips on snowshoes are organized by Geilo Aktiv. A trip up, in loose snow, between the trees, in rugged terrain. This trip is for those who are used to taking trips in the terrain, can withstand going uphill, and likes to be active. The trip is taken before dinner.

What Should I Wear?

Dress for outdoor activity, warm, and windproof. The clothes should have room for movement and be comfortable to wear. Should there be snow, we recommend ski goggles or clear sunglasses to protect the eyes.
Choice of correct footwear is important to enable the snowshoes to fit comfortably. The snowshoe binding functions with almost all types of footwear, but moon boots, running shoes, and ski boots are not recommended. A hiking/mountain boot will be perfect. If you have gaiters, it is recommended to use them, as the trip takes place in the snow.
